Dexavier O’shea – Birds and the Bees @payoshea

0

Dexavier O’shea’s song “Birds and the Bees” is told from the perspective of a Father having his first child in a down spiraling relationship where the love is still mutual, but love is complicated. The relationship is plauged by lack of communication, frustration and infidelity as you will learn in an upcoming EP. Toward the end of the song the father takes a drive, gets in an accident and is on the verge of death. Which is essentially, the death of the relationship and realizes he wants to be better but it seems it’s too late.

Which leaves the son to be the man in his family. The chorus acts as the perspective from the unborn child acknowledging the arguments from his position during the chorus of the song hence the phrase, “I know more than you think I know”. The song acts as the intro to an EP for a bigger conversation. Vocals were provided by Atlanta based singer, Zem.

Dexavier O’shea is a hip-hop artist that is from the westside of Chicago, IL. Influenced my artist such as Nas, Jay-Z, Kanye, Wale and J.Cole. Dexaiver began writing music at the age of 10. Dexavier currently resides in Chicago pursing his goal to become one of the best artist the city has ever birth.

Bolu – Beautifully Thorned @3Symba3

“Beautifully Thorned” is complexity in feelings and thoughts from Bolu. It paints a multilayered picture of life, love, and experiences. Smooth and unorthodox lyricism that brings the listener along for the wave, makes you feel exactly what the artist felt, a mixture of different sounds making something so unique it’s jaw dropping and unexpected especially in this age of copy cat artist.

Influenced by Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, Wale, Noname and smooth vocalist like Jhené Aiko and Erykah Badu. Nigerian born and Atlanta raised Bolu is an artist that seeks a different path surrounded by trap music and Afrobeats what you hear from him knowing where he’s from is completely unexpected. Bolu is unique, is he a poet, a rapper, a crooner or just another sad soul? Bolu is an artist who’s lyricism betrays his age.

Born in September of 1996, his use of 90s television shows, music, and anime in metaphors and similes give the listener no choice, but to relate. You can’t help but sense an underlying tone of pain and hardship in his well thought out songs. The way in which he weaves his words together is effortless. An emotional writer with a sad smooth voice you can’t help but feel what he feels, “they say I’m offbeat, but I rap on my own two feet” he raps on his first single Happy people sing songs. He acknowledges his somewhat eccentric flow.

Phre$h Prince – Reminder @PhreshPrince204

Complemented by the professional sounds of CXDY, Phre$h Prince’s “Reminder” continues painting his emotions onto another darker, yet more subtle vibe this time around. Reminder details issues with love, trust and burned bridges. All apart of this cycle we call life, which sometimes can feel like it’s the end but, in reality; every ending is just a new beginning.

Phre$h Prince, born Jayvaun Gabriel, is a Trini – Canadian hailing East Indian and European roots. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and became apparent in the culture around 4 years ago. Phre$h Prince stands as a voice of his city, expressing his views, values and often story telling his experiences in the livid city. Prince aspires to motivate the youth to be independent and responsible while also living out their dreams and working to achieve success their way.

Phre$h Prince brings a dark – almost angry sound to the music scene, along with his dark vocals it comes together nicely for somewhat of a “Horror Story” to the ears, ironically at the same time sharing knowledge and positive vibes. He comes Live From The Ends, and has assured his city that something is stirring up.

His release “Arise” has recently started to buzz again and has begun to receive further international coverage, prompting Phre$h to respond to the demand of his listeners. It’s been quite sometime since we’ve seen a song with just Phre$h Prince, but he’s been leaving snippets almost every week on his Instagram to let his listeners know he’s hard at work. Phre$h Prince is brewing up a storm 2019 and if he wasn’t on your radar before he should be now.

Mastermind BL – Whole Time @WeMastermindBL @LysianMve @MinkoEmmanuel

0

“Whole Time” from Mastermind BL is a song exploring the thoughts of two young artists looking at places of success and privilege from a distance realizing they have made to a place mentally where they can handle both the task and the pressure that comes from wanting to live a life that is above average with accomplishments and resources to match.

The first verse explores the artist’s will to never let go of their goals because of the faith they have in what they’re doing and where they’re going. The second verse reinforces the level of focus they know needs to be put on the process and the journey to achieve greatness. It also focuses on individuality and the ways in which music and pop culture affect listeners to the point where their sense of individuality comes from the expectations they build around the music they’re exposed to.

He explores the lifestyle of people who change their personalities and attitude to fit the new standards set by trending musicians and public opinions while questioning the ways in which it affects ones sense of self and independence and recognizing that he likely also falls in the same category being that he has to do a certain amount of living to write music worth listening to, or live up to the standards he sets for himself through his music. The intro sees this same artist commit to being great “it’s about to be a Tony” (grandiose, dramatic and epic but as real and palpable as live acting), and the hunger that comes from wanting the live a life above the reality one is presented with.
