Koga Shabazz – OXYGEN @SirKogaShabazz

0

Directed by Ben Healey, this video combines striking visuals with entertaining effects to bring “OXYGEN” by Koga Shabazz to life. The music video follows Shabazz and his crew on their journey to secure oxygen. They pile into the van and head to the convenience store in order to get what they’re looking for. The video pulls influence from classic drill visuals, to intensive editing like Dexter Navy.

In a perpetuated culture of music production where tunes are specifically curated to hit the charts, an epidemic of shallow, looped riffs and calculated drops has taken over. There are few remaining purists who work tirelessly to preserve a hip hop’s name, and one of Seattle’s own is leading the way. A product of Seattle’s Central District, Koga Shabazz is a trained writer and vocalist whose dynamic style grounds itself in such influences as MF Doom, Isaiah Rashad, and Fela Kuti.

With intriguing lyrics that reveal the mind of an avid thinker and consistently high production value, his pure love of the genre is reflected in every track. Amidst a world of dubbed performances and singles that retread established genre tropes, Through the mentorship of local artists and figureheads Shabazz grew into his voice and transformed into an artist. After years of artist development, Shabazz finally started to gain attention his Junior year of high school. Since then, he’s dropped a mixtape and an EP, started playing sold out, electrifying shows all around the city, and has evolved as a writer and performer.

Gliz provides an alternative rock meshed production for Blueberry Ren’s break up tune, “Don’t Need You”.

“Don’t Need You” is my sixth single. My friend sent me the beat for it and a melody popped up in my head in the first 10 seconds of the beat.

I had no idea what topic I wanted to be for the beat until I found out my girlfriend had cheated on me. I was bottling up my emotions and I know that is bad for my mental and emotional health.
