The Unlabelled Awards: Carol Dunkley Recognizes The Stars Behind The Scene

Everyone who is anyone to know will be at New York Fashion Week this February. With all the different shows surrounding fashion week, the one event that industry insiders will be at is the Unlabelled Awards. The Unlabelled awards recognizes the extraordinary efforts of ordinary people who are brave enough to dream. Unmasking the stars behind the scenes has been Carol “Butterfly Tia” Dunkley’s goal for years. The fearless entrepreneur and mother got tired of the fact that too many people in entertainment, business and media go un-noticed no matter how exemplary their contribution is to our society and world and instead of waiting for this to change, she changed that herself.

“There are women and men who work tirelessly behind the scenes to create the finished products that we all marvel about,” begins Dunkley. “So many beautiful people are responsible for the end results of the things we love. It could be a look, music, a film, a song, a T.V show– whatever it is, it requires the labor of love from an individual that may never get credit or be recognized in the limelight.
Even more importantly, despite the fact that the Unlabelled Awards is a sophisticated Manhattan fashion event, Dunkley makes it her mission to not exclude hip hop. “Hip Hop is part of our greater culture and there are many people who do a lot in hip hop. Missy Elliot was a part of the Unlabelled Awards the other year where her Artist Sharaya J performed. I love that she is back. I think her comeback is great, hip hop needs some real movements and artist these days.

We’ve also honored DJ Envy before. It was an honor to have DJ Red Alert present him with the Award. Also Michael Bivins has been so influential in music period so we honrored him as well. Other artists that deserve to be recognized are Nas, LL Cool J, Salt & Pepa, and 50 cent.

The Unlabelled Awards will be held on Tuesday February 9th. To keep up with Dunkley and to get involved with the Awards as a sponsor, guest or talent please follow @fachionbloc on Instagram and twitter. Go to www.unlabelledawards.com

Rounding out the trio is Mr. Miranda, a Phoenix AZ native who’s smooth vocals and soulful beats can change the mood of any room. Miranda’s new album “Soul In Da Booth” is out now.

To kick things off, PS offers their first single, “Poseidon OG”, a smooth Nabeyin-produced track. At a time when there is so much negativity going on in the world, “Poseidon OG”, as with the entire EP, touches on the themes of self-empowerment, prosperity, truth and “riding them posi-waves”.

Third Coast emcee 5th Child tackles the harsh stereotypes about his hometown in the satirical new single “What You Need” from his upcoming album My Conversations with God.

My Conversations with God is 5th Child’s 7th studio album and was released independently on October 17, 2015. The entire project is self-produced with the exception of three tracks (including “What You Need” prod. by Y. Valentine) and is available online on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Tidal, etc.

5th Child has been featured on several major hip hop blogs including The Smoking Section, DJBooth, and AllHipHop. In addition to his catalog as an emcee, 5th Child has garnered a good bit of production credits from indie acts around the southeast to national recording artists including Dee-1.

“What You Need” (dir. by Theca Jones) features 5th Child starring as a dealer of all the world’s ills while pointing the finger at a culture that demonizes drugs yet gives a hypocritical pass to junk food.

Before anything else, Conrad was a teller of stories.  Apprenticed in the darkest violence, a ghost in a world that didn’t want him, he started with the simplest of tools.  A chance encounter as a young man gave him the weapons to work toward the next step-a computer and a microphone changed his life.  They became weapons to do good-tools for the people to believe in.  But this belief originated in himself.
It is an impossible task to create positive change if first one doesn’t believe it is possible.  Rather than show his dismay at the sour hand dealt him, Conrad gathered his tools and went to work-his belief in flexibility, in openmindedness, has never faltered.
Conrad is a warrior, then.  We each have our battles.  His are against the mindless materialism of the streets, where people live in self-disgust and poverty but wear the finest clothes they can buy, against the violence and egotism of street conflict and gang life.  While he recognizes all these things have come from something, he knows these harsh stones stacked up form roads which lead only in circles.
His sound is inspired by Tupac, Eminem, T.I, and Chamillionaire.  It has been described as ‘addictive’, ‘pop-accessible,’ ‘hook-laden’ and ‘radio-ready.’  It is work with an edge, balanced by his intense love for struggling communities and his dream to elevate the spirits of other kids hoping to defeat the hardships of the streets.  It is work with a reason, poised to take the streets by storm.

The original can be found on Mega Ran’s critically acclaimed album “RNDM” which is out now.

Zilla Rocca connects with fellow Philly-born MC Mega Ran to drop a remix of a heartfelt dedication to three of the pioneers of nerd rap.

The original track is produced by Lazerbeak of DOOMTREE, and appears on my new album “RNDM,” which debuted at #5 on the Billboard Heatseekers Charts and has been in the Top 5 on CMJ’s Hip Hop charts since it’s release in September.

Philly’s Zilla Rocca remixes the track and puts a great old school meets new school vibe on the track, with a familiar sample (think LL Cool J’s “Doin’ It”) and the danceable synth line 90’s meets 2010’s trap production.

royceBIRTH has contributed soundscapes to the likes of Rich KiddTonaD.O. and to Ghettosocks’ Juno-nominated album Treat of the Day (with “Rappin For Fun”). He has also proved he can hold his own on the mic, sharing the stage with Jeru Da Damajak-osK’Naan, and Phife Dawg (of A Tribe Called Quest). In a time where art is easily imitated and duplicated, royceBIRTH searches for ways to preserve the craft, and add his own twist to the mix. His third and newest album, Art On Fire!!, displays a true visionary at work by turning instruments upside down, flipping soul samples into full-driven punk records, and taking music into an unexplored territory yet to be heard. Always creative, forever determined, this is royceBIRTH.
