Wiill – Gold

0

Wiill releases the track and visuals for “Gold”; a personal identification of sanctuary in music that mirrors the comfort of religion. Directed by Stack Moses, credits with French Montana, B.O.B and Bigboi, he sets Wiill in California’s deserted land of Salvation Mountain and stained glass church to portray a religious aesthetic, while visualizing the sounds of the choir and organ.

Wiill is an up and coming artist originally from Los Angeles, California and raised in South Florida. As a rapper and a producer, Wiill’s music draws inspiration from lyrical and soul artists such as Chance the Rapper and Mac Miller, but also from his surrounding trap artists in the region.

Much of his early praise has likened him to the late Mac Miller. His sound ranges from West Coast Hip Hop to Southern Trap Music, and even from EDM to Lo-Fi music, a testament to his talent and diverse capabilities. Wiill has booked successful gigs and performances on both the east and west coasts, most notably at venues like Catch One LA and Brooklyn’s Social Butterfly.

As a new student at Boston College, Wiill has performed at various college and fraternity parties in his five month tenure. His music has been featured on the Spotify Billboard Hot 100 chart, FaZe Clan, and many other successful playlists.

Wiill currently works with an indie label out of Venice, California called Channel the Sun; an art, music, and lifestyle curator. He has also recently started working with Stack Moses, the talented and established videographer crediting with the likes of French Montana and similar standing artists, bringing Wiill’s music to life.

EL GUAPO – DOPESICK @guapofilth

0

“DOPESICK” is a both a love song and a song about heartbreak. The beat features sparse, airy synth plucks and grimy keyboard chords framed by a tight and steady, up-tempo drum pattern. EL GUAPO sings about the loss of a lover and the feelings of withdrawal that come with a break-up. In the second verse he bounces back and forth between feelings of adoration and disdain for his ex.

EL GUAPO (also known by his producer alias, Doc Ellis) is a 22 year-old, Portland-based rapper and producer. Born in Corvallis, Oregon in 1996, Ellis started performing music young, playing guitar and singing in rock bands in middle and high school.

In 2014, Ellis was inspired to pick up electronic beat production after hearing the beautiful complexity of Travis Scott’s mixtape “Days Before Rodeo”. As he cultivated his own production style over the years, he was heavily influenced by his introduction to a range of musical styles, most notably the grungy South Florida trap scene, the dreamy, lo-fi electronic beats from Atlanta’s underground, and the new wave of emo-trap pioneered by artists like Juice WRLD and Lil Peep.

In 2019, after years of producing for other local rappers, Ellis started a new project under the name EL GUAPO. His intentions were to release music that was entirely self-produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered. In July 2019, EL GUAPO released his debut EP “ACT OF VIOLENCE”, followed soon after by 2 singles, “BROKEN BONES” and “DOPESICK”. EL GUAPO’s music expands upon his atmospheric, gloomy production with dark stories about his difficult adolescence, drug addiction, heartbreak, and mental illness.

K.U.B. – Dangerous @KUB16649686

0

‘Dangerous’ is a lo-fi coming of age tale from K.U.B. led by an infectious bass line and brain-snapping lyricism. Loss of innocence and the dangers of growing up mix harmoniously in the visual music video to create a sweet, sad piece of art.

K.U.B. writes deep, lyrical psalms. He believes in the power of the living word and he is passionate about speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves. His unique sound stems from early exposure to lyricism in his uncle XL’s hip-hop CDs and rhythm in his father’s djembe and talking drum performances.

GIANNI – Blue Pill @gianni_vi

0

GIANNI’s “Blue Pill” represents the blissful ignorance to the realities of life, the harsh ones. Our generation indulges in the blue pill when it comes to love, when it comes to being themselves…. we are afraid to fall. Maybe we should take the red one… and just completely crash.

GIANNI is what our generation loves in this song…. someone who is cool, someone who got swag, someone who is on his bullshit. This person is rooted from the ego, that is where these emotions came from in the song.

GIANNI is an upcoming artist aspiring to be more than just a rapper but to change the world with the perspectives and wisdom life presents to him on a daily basis. Born in Manhattan, he lives in Flushing, Queens but the lower part of Manhattan has been his home his whole life. Music has been his escape all his life, but only through the listening of other voices. Music provided a world where he could do what he never learned before in his life: Feel.

Once he arrived to college at Syracuse University, he realized that his dream was in doing what no one taught him there to do and that was create his own reality. He began writing prose and poetry, but slowly dived into creating lyrics for musical concepts. A key theme within everything he wrote was the theme of love, lovelessness, and a search for eternal love. Something about love seemed so powerful in his life but also in what he saw others go through, and with that came the leap of faith with his first song ever that he put out, titled “not blone (steve lacy)”. This song was a cover to a Steve Lacy SoundCloud song and from there, he realized he took the leap he was scared to do his whole life and kept going.

GIANNI believes that love can change the world, and music has allowed him to find himself and tell the world who he really is. Gianni believes that one day the world will change and the change starts within everyone else, and that cannot happen until love is found within each individual person. The world doesn’t make it an easy place to do that, but no one ever told us this was easy. GIANNI represents the people who aren’t perfect, but realize that is what being perfect means.

Voodoo Lu – High/Low

0

The music video for the Voodoo Lu’s single “High/Low” plays on the Yin/Yang concept. It’s the duality of everything. There are always happy and sad, good and evil, exciting and dull moments. The highs in life do not last forever and neither do the lows. We are a constant combination and blend of both things. The black and white colors and the visuals/animations in the video depict these conflicting emotions. “I been High I been low… Sip that Henny and smoke that dro…” Being in a state of sadness and feeling stuck and trying to believe that you will eventually make it out and that everything will get better.

Voodoo Lu is Chinese American rapper from New Jersey/New York and raised in Hong Kong. Lu is fluent in both English and Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese/Shanghainese) and raps back in forth in both. Lu’s mother came to New York from Shanghai in the 80s on a music scholarship and played all kinds of music when Lu was growing up. But Lu chose hip hop at an early age and began listening to artists like Wu Tang, Jay-Z, Big L, 50 Cent, Eminem etc. Lu started rapping at a young age and first performed a rap song on stage at just 6 years old. However, it wasn’t until junior year of high school when Lu began taking music seriously. He bought a microphone and downloaded Logic Pro, and was hooked ever since.

Voodoo Lu is a combination of many things. Yin/Yang, New Money, East Meets West. Coming from a family of immigrants, Lu saw many relatives and family friends come to the United States and struggle to make ends meet. However, Lu was never a fan of the conventional way of doing things. And the other side of Lu’s family, including Lu’s father and his close uncles, were people who found different routes and methods to succeed that were riskier but also more lucrative $$. From either selling things in Chinatown, to hustling counterfeit items, or just gambling and loan sharking…that was the side that attracted Lu the most. And hip hop fit in there as well.

Having spent the first half of his life in the United States and the 2nd half of it in Hong Kong and China, Lu is a perfect blend of Eastern and Western culture. The Yin/Yang balance relates to many things including the ability to adjust and adapt to each culture while also bringing a different perspective from the other side as well.
