MrE, who also goes by the alias, the Dark 1, is a Nigerian-American music artist born in Bronx, N.Y. MrE started writing songs at the age of 14, crediting DMX’s debut album, “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot”, for both his influence and courage to finally attempt song writing.
In 2001, MrE started performing at local talent shows, showcases and open mics all at his college, local clubs and venues such as Karma Lounge, Sullivan Hall and the Apollo. For Los Angeles native Rit$y, music has always been a big part of his life and something he enjoyed. Being raised in LA County meant Rit$y was exposed to rap heavyweights from the jump and the LA culture engrained itself in him.
Soon he was a teenager hanging out with his friends, exploring their creativity and making music as a hobby. It didn’t take long for Rit$y to realize he had a gift, leading him to take his music much more seriously.
He hit the studio and channeled all his energy into his art, culminating in the 2016 release of his first project, an EP titled “When Pig$ Fly.” Inspired by those who doubted his skills and ability as an artist, he chose that name as a nod to the famous idiom that symbolizes how unlikely people thought his chances at succeeding in music would be.
The project was produced by Rit$y and Ninedy2 and its positive reception lead to several music videos and planning for even more. Directed by Marleaux Desire, the video for ‘Cliches’ introduces the group while running through a string of hip hop cliches, using bars from iconic rappers such as Ice Cube as dictionary definitions for each. The video for ‘Keep Up’ follows the events of ‘Cliches’ bringing all three members of the group together, with Ama coming through with a near flawless verse on the ‘Male-Dominated world’. Speaking about the video Kane said “The group was going through a lot and these were a couple of the tracks that were created during that time. We really wanted to use vibrant colors and classic themes to get our point across in this video and I think that was conveyed clearly.”
By 2015, Kayne and Charles Tyler had formed the hip-hop/R&B group now known as Lo Village, based out of their hometown in Gaithersburg, MD.
Over the next, few years the Collective grew and its musical potential became apparent. Although Lo Village was established as the Collective’s first act, the group has gone through different iterations as it has worked to perfect its group dynamics and sound. The most recent iteration came with the addition of powerhouse vocalist Ama, who joined forces with Kayne and Charles to give the group its unique R&B twist. Artist development has and will continue to be the cornerstone of the group’s sound and long term success.
