‘Smoke Rise’ is a sentimental song that reminisces upon lost love. Cub-J wrote this song from the perspective of his good friend whose girlfriend passed away in a car crash. Despite its undertones of mourning and death, the song is written in a manner in which it can relate to anyone who’s lost a loved one regardless of the cause. The chorus vocals and bass are done by Rub N’ Alc, a Chicago R&B/Soul duo with whom Cub-J frequently collaborates. The beat is produced by Jab, Brooklyn native. The song drops Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2019 with a video shot, edited and directed by Chicago’s Paul Araki Elliot.

Elliot is known for his videography work with independent Chicago artists such as The Palmer Squares, ProbCause, Netherfriends, Will is Chillin’ and many more. ‘Smoke Rise’ is Cub-J’s first offering from his upcoming project produced entirely by Jab.

Cub-J is a 24 year old recording artist from Evanston, IL. The Chicago emcee has built a supportive local fanbase from the several projects he’s released over the years. Recently, he decided to make the move to Los Angeles in hopes to further advance his musical career. He has opened for artists such as Waka Flocka Flame, Bone Thugs N’ Harmony, Riff Raff, B.O.B. and more. He is currently working on a full length project produced entirely by Jab.
