Jony Shelby – Alone, but I Need It @mojoJony

0

Since his arrival back in late 2018, self-produced singer-songwriter Jony Shelby has been unstoppable. Having already received support from the likes of Elevator Magazine, Stereo Stickman and ZO Magazine, Shelby now returns with the masterful ‘Alone, But I Need It’, his follow-up single.

Jony Shelby is the versatile producer / artist originally hailing from Baton Rouge, now of Austin, TX. He was always fascinated by music since a young age, playing instruments in his late father’s church and being the drum major in his high school band, but it has only been recently within the past 3 years that he has captivated with digital creations. Explosively combining elements ranging from hip-hop to electronica, these creations are wildly distinct to say the least, adding a breathe of levity to each respective genre.

With it’s unpredictable patterns and wild turns, Jony’s sound connects with listeners on a gut level, finding a common ground in the types of experiences he’s had. The Shelby sound is quite the experience ,to say the least.

GR3YWXLF – Orphan @greywulfchild

0

Throwing out the third release of the year, GR3YWXLF’s “Orphan” is a retrospective freestyle flip on the J Cole single, “Middle Child”.

Waxing woke lyricism with his wisened supervillain approach, the enigmatic lo-fi nomad isn’t quite what you would come to expect from the traditional UK soundscape. With an emphasis on style AND substance rather than one over the other. He creatively interweaves pop culture references and life survival narration, highlighted by a range of influences packaged within downtempo melodic vibes. Such influences stem from both old and new school hip-hop blended with hints of experimental and alternative r&b. GR3YWXLF both naturally and comfortably sits just outside of the standard assumptions held regarding the sounds from the scene he hails from.

Jay Diener – Full Circle

0

Jay Diener delivers his new single, “Full Circle”, and goes into great detail behind it below.

When I write my tracks I like to create in a way that the music can be interpreted differently depending on the listener and what they need to hear or take from it at the time. With that being said I don’t want to give too much away about what the meaning of the song is to me personally. However, what I will say about “Full Circle” is that it was written right after my mom passed away from Leukemia last year. During this time I learned that life is short and you only have so many people who are really there for you. If you listen closely enough, you can feel the energy of that.

Jay Diener is an upcoming hip hop artist and songwriter out of the NJ/NYC area. He grew up listening to a wide range of music from all different eras. (you’d be impressed at the musical encyclopedia inside of his head, but interested in the fact that he still needs navigation for directions and a calculator for basic math.) This background solidified his massive love for music. His writing style is heavily influenced by this as well, which covers many genres including: Rap/Hip Hop, Pop, R&B, Alternative & EDM.

He has been known to put together “mastermind” studio sessions; Bringing in several creatives to network and complete top notch finished pieces of work. As an artist his fan base continues to grow through his catchy hooks, captivating verses and his undeniable drive and desire to be heard. He also is heavily involved in the business and management of his own music; Learning the ins and outs of everything it takes to become a superstar.

This unique combination of talent, creativity and business sense has had people comparing him to the likes of a Young Jimmy Iovine and Scott Storch combo, but truthfully there is no one quite like him.

The Lost Order Ft BOA – 448 @TheLostOrder

0

“448” is the latest installment from The Lost Order and B0A. The track is a non-stop vocal assault against the predictable lyrics of other artists, laced around a heavy, driving beat that causes subs to let off some rounds.

The Lost Order is a next-gen collective, distorting the lines of Trap, Hip-Hop, and EDM. Ascending from Dayton, Ohio, The Lost Order is lead by producer/vocalist K-O and vocalist B0A. The sound of this group is aggressive, futuristic, and cinematic, bringing a unique edge and set of aesthetics that is found in their productions.

Kay P Ft OMA – Better or Worse @OnewhoMayAscend

0

Life has its ups and downs, peaks and valleys. On “For Better or Worse”, Kay P and OMA take a moment to reflect on those undesirable circumstances that have lead to their successful trajectories and prospects for the future.

Representing the Dallas/Fort Worth area and the world as a whole, OMA (One who May Ascend) is not your cliché rap artist. His style is – to say the least – different. With intricate lyrical content and concepts that can only be explained by some level of divine intervention, OMA has many titles, among them: leader, lyricist, martial artist, entrepreneur, underdog, and philosopher, but above all, he is a human being.

One who May Ascend’s upbringing was not that of a normal childhood. In everything from his birth name containing Arabic and Egyptian roots, to his diet, OMA was raised as a demigod, and was expected to live up to his name.

The first born son of two educated middle-class Afro-centric radicals, and offered to God in keeping with the covenant with Abraham as the first born in the family, OMA was taught the value of manners, service, appreciation, hard work, and humility, amongst others, but most importantly, the sacredness of his name. OMA kept all of these principles at heart, however it wasn’t until his early teens that OMA developed an interest in expressing his experiences and all he learned rhythmically and poetically through music – more specifically, rap.

The lasting psychological effects of OMA’s early childhood played a significant role in his thinking as a teen. OMA was often conflicted between the divine way of life he was taught, and mundane life on the day-to-day basis. He was also ostracized regularly, being labeled a “nerd” or “not black enough” for being different (and at times, more intelligent) than the other children at school. With no personalized outlet to expel this negative energy, he would constantly find himself getting in fights, behaving recklessly, or following ‘the wrong crowd’ in futile attempts to fit in a society which he shared nothing in common with. It was in one of these encounters with the wrong crowd of people where One who May Ascend discovered what was soon to become his passion.

In the beginning of his musical career, OMA was unfamiliar with rap sensations such as Tupac Shakur, Biggie, or Eminem, but after hearing an exhibition from one of the local rap artists, OMA developed a keenness for poetry in its rhythmic form. OMA saw emcees as people of struggle, people with unique life experience – not unlike his own condition – relating their stories and those experiences to the rest of the world. OMA greatly admired their skill, openness, and bravery in which they shared their lives and ideas to an imperfect world. Intrigued, the teenager delved into the world of hip-hop, and in doing so, he discovered a newfound peace which he had never known in expressing himself through his music – without limitations, and without restrictions, and for the first time, without fear.

Finding sanction in a new world of creativity, One who May Ascend’s music harbors the same essential principles instilled in him at an early age such as: perseverance, excellence, self-awareness, as well as his unpleasant personal experiences; emotions such as feeling lost, empty, and that of hopelessness, all in attempt to educate the global community of the human race’s similarities in hopes of a better tomorrow.
